Le DeFi qu’on peut traduire en français par la Finance décentralisée, est un système financier qui fonctionne sans intermédiaires. On retrouve dans ce système financier le terme de Valeur totale de fonds verrouillés ou TVL. La TVL est un indice qui permet de mesurer la santé du marché DeFi. Elle permet également de comparer la part de marché des différents protocoles DeFi. Il faut savoir que plus la TVL est élevée dans un projet DeFi, mieux cela est pour le marché.
Depuis l’apparition de la DeFi en 2017, la valeur totale de fonds verrouillés est toujours en hausse. À la fin de l’année 2018, la TVL était estimée à 300 millions de dollars. Un an plus tard, elle est passée à plus du double dont 800 millions de dollars. À la fin de l’année 2020 avec 15 milliards de dollars bloqués dans les projets DeFi. À ce jour, la somme bloquée est estimée à plus de 100 milliards de dollars.
On recense trois principaux cas d’utilisation de la DeFi.
On peut facilement faire un emprunt dans ce système financier. Ici, les transactions se règlent de manière instantanée. Il y a la possibilité de garantir des actifs numériques. Ces services d’emprunt reposent sur des blockchains. Ce qui réduit les risques de contrepartie, rend les prêts accessibles à tout le monde.
Les applications DeFi sont des applications financières décentralisées (dapps). Dans le cadre des services monétaires bancaires, on peut avoir l’émission d’assurances, de stablecoins, ou de crédits hypothécaires.
Il s’agit du plus grand potentiel à l’innovation financière. Les plateformes disponibles permettent aux utilisateurs d’échanger des cryptomonnaies sans avoir besoin de passer par un intermédiaire et de remplir un KYC. Toutes les transactions se déroulent dans la blockchain d’un utilisateur à un autre.
